Robbie Deville (1982) is a Bristol based artist working with photography and the book form. Studying photography at university, he developed a practice focused on the natural world, ornithology, mycology and land and seascapes.

His work has been exhibited nationally and he is the author of two self published monographs.

Deville’s long-term project,Threads of impermanence, examines the developed ways in which mushrooms communicate with each other, interact with other natural systems and what we can learn by looking at them closely. He continually looks at finding ways of making the audience look at things in a different way and hopefully changing people's perspectives.

He hopes to continue down the path of photographing the natural world and all aspects of it, capturing the highs and lows of what nature is willing to show us.

Predominantly shooting on digital mirrorless cameras he also has a keen interest in shooting medium format film and videography.

Working primarily with natural light, they combine documentary and cinematic approaches to create atmospheric images rich in texture, depth and mood. Their photography often moves between dark tonal contrasts and muted natural colours, capturing quiet moments that reveal the fragility, mystery and presence of the environment. Their work invites viewers to slow down and reconnect with the species that often go unnoticed.

Robbie continues to work towards the next project and building up a body of work to showcase in book form and planned for future exhibitions
